At the beginning of the Twentieth Century, while Russia is plunged into WWI and the subsequent revolution of 1917, the Markov family is torn apart by personal tragedies and political events. Defeated by the Bolsheviks, together with millions of others, the family is forced into exile - destination unknown.

Part III
Here is Vicka’s humorous recollection of her visit to post communist Russia, as she fulfills a promise to her father to visit what was left of their Pokrovskoye estate in the Province of Kursk.

Part II
Together with a small group of White Russians, the Markov family finds a welcome haven in Egypt. Vicka tells of her growing up in Alexandria and the family’s efforts to successfully overcome the enormous challenges of their destiny. However, in 1958, the political climate in the Middle East changes, and the Markov family find themselves in a precarious position. In a series of unforgettable events, they are finally able to leave Egypt for the United States and to freedom from persecution.
Vicka’s first published book is titled Amigos and Friends.

It is a lighthearted memoir of life in La Paz, Mexico, where she and her husband George built a second home. It describes their hilarious experiences and heart-warming encounters with some special people who changed their lives forever.

Vicka's Bio

Vicka was born in Alexandria, Egypt where she attended a bilingual French and English school. While in Egypt her father had served the King of Egypt in a political appointment. Vicka holds a B.A. in French from Dominican College in San Rafael, California and a M.A. in French and Russian literature from San Francisco State University. Trilingual in Russian, French and English, she is fluent in Spanish and Arabic. She and her husband George traveled extensively, and in their later years, moved to Santa Rosa, California. She is now widowed and lives with her two cats, Katisha and Sultan. She is now working on a mystery novel, to be published shortly.
